Grover F. Thomas

Grover F. Thomas, age 66, of Quincy died on Sunday, January 8, 2023 in his home. He was born on July 24, 1956, in Quincy the son of Grover F. and Anna (Lawson) Thomas.

He attended Quincy Senior High School. At age 15, Grover began his career as a roofer.

He was an employee for Reeves Roofing for many years, then started his own roofing business, Thomas Construction where he worked until his retirement.
For the last few years, he had worked at the Salvation Army Thrift Store.

Grover was an enthusiastic football super fan of the Buffalo Bills. In his younger years he liked riding his Triumph motorcycle. Throughout his life he spent time fishing, boating and at his camp on the Mississippi River. He was a hunter of mushrooms, rabbits, and quail. Grover had a talent for repairing all things and was mechanically gifted.
He generously shared his time with friends and family. Grover would help lend a hand to anyone who needed it, and his friends would say that “he literally will give you the shirt off his back”. He was very helpful and along with his siblings, took good care of their mom and grandmother as they grew older. He was loved and will be missed.

Grover is survived by his two sons: Steve (Summer) Thomas and Joseph (Tisha) Thomas all of Quincy. Grandchildren: Stevie Griffin, Blaine Thomas, Lakyn Thomas, Brittany (Ryan) Garity, Dalton Thomas, Keaton Thomas, Amelia “Millie” Thomas; one great grandson, Ari Garity. Siblings: Charlotte (Dan) Meyer of Hannibal, MO and Michael (Susan) Kroner of Payson, IL. nieces and nephews: Ted (Melissa Wahl) Meyer and Amy Meyer, Megan (Henry) Krigbaum and Aidan Kroner. Great-nieces and great nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant son, Grover.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Graveside services will immediately follow the visitation at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Quincy Memorial Park. Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.     Worked with Grover 1977-78 building what is now Ashley Furniture on Broadway. I haven’t seen him since the mid 80’s but think of the old Patterson Construction crew often. R.I.P. Gone but not forgotten.

    Very sorry for your loss. He was a great guy and like a brother to me. I will miss him greatly. Unable to say goodbye in person at his viewing due to illness. Goodbye Grover will miss you terribly
