Grace Catherine Joyce Schell

Grace Catherine Joyce Schell, age 15, of Liberty, died with a heart filled with love on Sunday, October 4, 2020 in Blessing Hospital. She was born on January 16, 2005 in Quincy, the daughter of Dustin J. and Holly (Campbell) Schell.

Grace attended grade school at St. James Lutheran School. She was a sophomore at Liberty High School where she participated in cross country, track and was a school cheerleader. Grace enjoyed whatever she was doing whether it be dancing, fishing, hunting, camping, working, or riding bikes and horses. She loved shoes, especially athletic shoes. At 5 years old, Grace knew that she wanted to be an oral surgeon, and when her sister Emma got braces, Grace enthusiastically helped her with advice.

Grace loved everyone and had a life full of friends, she had a beautiful smile and laugh. Grace was a “free spirit” and always found a way to lift people up when they needed it most. The world was never big enough for her!

People who had only met her once were touched by her energy and never forgot that about her. Grace recently received her lifeguard certification and was looking forward to being a lifeguard next season.

Along with her parents, Grace is survived by her siblings: Emma, Sophia and Elijah; her maternal grandparents; Gerald “Booty” and Yvonne Campbell of Quincy, paternal grandparents Nancy (Tom) Goehl of Mackinaw, IL., Christopher Schell of Liberty; Maternal Great- Grandmother Alvena Campbell of Quincy, Maternal Great- Grandfather Richard Obert of Quincy, Paternal Great- Grandmother Norma Hebel of Quincy and Paternal Great- Grandfather Mark Schell of Quincy;

Grace was preceded in death by her Maternal Great- Grandmother; Dolores Obert, Paternal Great-Grandparent’s Leanne Schell and Henry Hebel, and Maternal Great-Grandfather, Grover Campbell.

Family and Friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Monday, October 12, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at the Liberty School Track. Please do wear a face mask and follow social distancing guidelines. My heart breaks to hear of the loss of this beautiful young lady. I was a close friend of her GREAT Grandmother, Leanne Schell, who spoke of her family often. She loved this girl so much. While I didn’t know Grace personally, I believe I can say without a doubt in my mind that Grandmother Leanne was waiting for her at the gates of Heaven. Leanne and Grace can be angels together. God bless you all.

    My sympathy to you on the passing of your dear, sweet Grace. I remember her fondly from her years at St. Dominic School. Grace always had a happy genuine smile, and was kind and caring to all. I loved to way she watched out for her younger siblings. What a great big sister, classmate, and friend to all! She had such a great enjoyment of life, and I know that enjoyment and love continues in her eternal life in Heaven. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

    Oh Grace, my heart hurts knowing this world is without you. I remember the day I met you and you dropped all the Christmas cookies on the floor and you couldn’t apologize enough to your mom. Your sincerity was like a bright light beaming across the room. I knew at that moment you were something special. I know God is good and this is all how it is supposed to be but it still hurts. We will see you again and we will speak of you and your bright light often. May we all #BeLikeGrace

    I remember seeing Grace when she was little at the fair every year selling t shirts with mom and grandma. She grew into a wonderful and outstanding young woman, who im sure would have done extraordinary things. I am so sorry for your loss. I pray that God will find extra favor for her and her entire family. To Booty, and Yvonne, I hope both of you are doing as well as you possibly can. To Holly and Dustin, heaven has been in the making forever, I guess God finally decided to make it perfect. Even he could not live without her anymore. If there Is anything I can do for anyone of you please let me know. Grace will be always loved and never forgotten.

    Grace was truly an amazing person with a heart full of love. I rarely saw her when she was not smiling. Her love for Jesus was evident in all she did. It was truly a privilege to be friends of her family, and serve as one of her pastors. God is now making good on the promise of her baptism as she rests with Jesus, and He will raise her in glory on the last day. I look forward to that day, and seeing Grace’s smile once again.
