Glenn E. Mellon
Glenn E. Mellon, age 84, of 2130 Harrison, formerly of 406 Park, Liberty died on Sunday, June 19, 2011 in the home. He was born July 1, 1926 in Pike County, Fairmount Township, IL, the son of Harry E. & Zepha Marie (Wymer) Mellon. He married Gladys R. Brown on August 25, 1945 in Quincy. She survives.
Glenn was a farmer for 22 years. He later worked in maintenance & grounds keeping at the Quincy Regional Airport, retiring in 1992. He then worked for Liberty Village in Water & Maintenance.
He was of the Christian faith. He was an avid outdoorsman & camper, he especially loved camping at Cedar Lakes and Siloam Springs. Glenn also enjoyed woodworking & collecting miniature farm tractors. He always enjoyed being with his children, grandchildren & his puppy, Abby.
Glenn is survived by his children: Melvin G. Mellon and his wife, Glennis, of Payson; Linda Kasparie and her husband, Larry, of Liberty; G. Ruth Mellon of Barry; and Charles E. Mellon and his companion, Diane Hrichak, of Quincy; He is also survived by one brother, Harry “Junior” Mellon and his wife Marianna of Quincy and two sisters, Idella Mellon of Quincy and Uvadella Martin of Augusta, IL.
Sixteen grandchildren, Brad (Becky) Mellon of Payson, Jamie Mellon, Brent (Tanya) Mellon all of Quincy; Joshua (Erin) Mellon of Hull, IL; Kevin (Brandy) Kasparie, Jeff (Michelle) Kasparie all of Liberty, Jason (Amanda) Kasparie, of Ursa; Angie Kasparie of Liberty, Bobby (Andi) Ash, of Payson; and Bryan (Kim) Ash and Kandace Spann, both of Barry; Rob (Patti) Mellon of Quincy; Jennifer (Jamie) Schumacher, Michelle (Jamie) Coons all of Quincy and Bernie Ormond, III, of Liberty; Julie (Randy) Reis of Quincy;
In addition, forty-four great grandchildren, one great-great grandson and several nieces & nephews also survive.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Kathryn Ann Ormond.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM in Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Rev. John Furniss. Interment in St. Brigid Cemetery, Liberty. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Blessing Hospice, the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
