Gladys R. Mellon

Gladys R. Mellon, age 88, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of Liberty, died on Sunday, March 23, 2014 in the Good Samaritan Home. She was born on March 30, 1925 in Adams County, IL the daughter of Clifford and Mary (Blivens) Brown. She married Glenn Mellon on August 25, 1945 in Quincy. He preceded her in death.

Gladys worked as a CNA for Blessing Hospital for over 20 years and the later worked for Adams County Home Health until her retirement. She was of the Christian Faith. Gladys loved camping, crocheting, sewing and crafts. She loved spending time with her family and her puppy, “Ms Abby”.

Gladys is survived by her children: Melvin G. (Glennis) Mellon of Payson; Linda (Larry) Kasparie of Liberty; and Charles E. “Chuck” Mellon of Quincy and his fiance, Diane Hrichak. A son-in-Law: Bernie Ormond, II of Liberty.

Sixteen grandchildren, Brad (Becky) Mellon, Jamie Mellon, Brent (Tanya) Mellon; Joshua Mellon, Kevin (Brandy) Kasparie, Jeff (Michelle) Kasparie, Jason (Amanda) Kasparie; Angie Kasparie, Bobby (Andi) Ash; Bryan (Kim) Ash, Kandace Spann; Rob (Patti) Mellon; Jennifer (Jamie) Schumacher, Michelle Coons, Bernie Ormond, III; and Julie (Randy) Reis.

In addition, forty-four great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren.
A BROTHER: Clifford (Dorothy) Brown, Jr.
SISTERS: Sylvia Furniss, Dorothy (Russell Jr.) Miller and Pearl (Dean) Coultas.
Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

In addition to her husband, Gladys was preceded in death by her parents and two daughters, G. Ruth Mellon and Kathryn Ann Ormond, Brothers: Elmer, David and Harold Brown and Sisters: Faye Huddleston and Leona Mellon.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM in Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Rev. John Furniss. Interment in St. Brigid Cemetery, Liberty. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Quincy Humane Society.
