Gerald Joseph Kuhn

Gerald Joseph Kuhn, age 90, of the Illinois Veteran’s Home, formerly of 3601 Tiffany Lane, Quincy, died on Monday, August 31, 2015 in the home. He was born on December 4, 1924 in Quincy, a son of Leonard Joseph & Catherine Elizabeth (Shear) Kuhn. He married Dorothy Marie Whaley on July 20, 1946 in St. Francis Catholic Church in Quincy. She preceded him in death on October 11, 1997.

Gerald served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked in various occupations in both farming and general contracting. He worked for Moorman Manufacturing, owned and operated the City Service filling station and worked for John Kuhn Roofing.

He was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Mendon, IL where he was a past member of the Holy Name Society. He also was a member of the Bear Creek American Legion Post 823 and he volunteered at the St. Paul’s Mission in Crown Point, NM where he aided in the upkeep of the church

He enjoyed doing maintenance work at the Adams County Fair. His hobbies included woodworking, camping and square dancing, where he also called the dances.

ONE SON: Gerald Wayne Kuhn and his wife Lucy of Mendon, IL;
FOUR DAUGHTERS: Karen Sue Herring and her husband Dean of Quincy, Jana Marie Scott Casper and her husband Bill of LaGrange, MO, Brenda Lee Sprague and her husband Mark of Quincy and Cynthia Jo Cassens and her husband Eric of Camp Point, IL;
THIRTEEN GRANDCHILDREN: Rob (Wendy) Kuhn of Ursa, IL, Mindy (Eric) Entrup of Quincy, Dana Herring of Quincy, Julie Herring of Quincy, Angela (Adam) South of St. Louis, MO, Tracy (JoAnn) Scott, Miller, MO, Vincent (Amanda) Casper of Cheney, KS, Kristen (David) Goings of Durham, MO, Joe (Katrina) Casper of Quincy, Jacob (Kayla) Scott of Lewistown, MO, Jason Buxman of Quincy, Derek Sprague of Springfield, IL, Erica (Nate) Hilgenbrinck and Justin (Kristen) Cassens, all of Camp Point, IL.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Kyle, Kaylee & Kameren Kuhn, Ali, Sydney & Carly Entrup, August & Patience Jones, Andrew, Madelyn & Zachary Scott, Oliver, Elizabeth, Theodore, Henry & Adrian Casper, Seth, Cole, Will &, Hannah Goings, Kennadi, Anabel & Millie Casper, Bentley & Lilah Scott, Ana Marie Severns, Ian & Ava Hilgenbrinck and Jackson & Brooklyn Cassens, plus one due in October;

In addition to his wife, Dorothy and his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Delores Sparks and Patricia & Phyllis in infancy; a brother Ralph Kuhn and a son-in-law Charles Scott and grandchildren Angela Kuhn, Chad Herring, Stephanie & Michael Scott.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Private interment will be at Calvary Cemetery with military honors by the Bear Creek American Legion Post 823. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until the time of the services at 7:00 PM in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
