Gerald “Jerry” E. Ostermueller

Gerald “Jerry” E. Ostermueller age 82, of St. Vincent’s Home died on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 7:10 a.m. in the home. Jerry was born in Quincy on March 21, 1936 the son of Edward and Eileen (Felsman) Ostermueller. He married Barbara Ann Varner on December 26, 1957, she preceded him in death on April 11, 2018.

Jerry was a photographer for the Quincy Herald Whig and he sold advertising for the “Advisor” publication. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. Jerry had served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He liked tinkering with motors and gardening. Jerry had some regular sayings that he was known for, such as: “that reminds me of a story…” and when asked how he was doing, he would generally reply: “finer than frogs hair split and quartered”.

Survivors include: his children: Pamela (James) Keller, Terry (Katie) Ostermueller, Larry (Laura) Ostermueller, Gary Ostermueller, Ann (Patrick) Freiburg, and a son-in-law Kent Bridgewater. Grandchildren: Roberta (Jeff) Ostermueller, Ryan (Emily) Keller, Lawrence Ostermueller, Lisa Ostermueller, Parker (Theresa) Freiburg, Lauren Freiburg, Kaleb Bridgewater, and Kristopher Bridgewater. Great-grandchildren: Erin Peters, Eric Courson, Pearce and Paxton Keller, and Emma Windmiller. Brothers and sisters in-law: Kay (Chuck) Cosgrove, Joan Dittmer, Arlene Creech and Wayne (Donna) Varner, and Joyce Varner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter Christine Bridgewater, and a daughter Laura Ostermueller in infancy, brothers-in-law, John Dittmer, Dan Creech and Don Varner.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 12 Noon in Calvary Cemetery by Rev. Don Blaeser, O.F.M. There is no visitation, but family and friends are invited to the graveside services. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Catholic Church or to St. Vincent’s Home. www.dukerandhaugh.com
