Gerald Eugene “Jerry” Ohnemus

Gerald Eugene “Jerry” Ohnemus, age 92, of Quincy died on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, in Blessing Hospital. He was born on April 8, 1930, in Quincy the son of Eugene C. and Mary Eva (Klatt) Ohnemus. Jerry married Doris Fitzsimmons on June 17, 1972, at Centennial Baptist Church in Jacksonville, IL. Doris survives.

He was a Korean Veteran with the United States Navy serving his county during the Korean Conflict. He was proud to have been able to attend a Great River Honor Flight with his daughter in April of 2014.

He was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church.

Jerry was employed at Huck Manufacturing Company in various positions for thirty-nine years until his retirement in 1993. Jerry was a carpenter by trade who was very particular with his work, making him a master carpenter. He had a passion for woodworking, making cabinetry and custom woodwork for many home remodels, building projects and built several homes. Jerry made an original coffee table for each of his grandchildren, according to their own personal tastes that they will always treasure.

He participated in the very first fundraising drive for QND Foundation, and he volunteered for R.S.V.P. He was a very social person with a great sense of humor, always wanting to make people laugh. Jerry loved visiting and talking with others, and he never met a stranger. Family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed spending time with his nine little great-granddaughters. He was a word search enthusiast completing thousands of word search puzzles. He also he enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events in his younger years.

In addition to his wife Doris, other survivors include his daughter, Kathy (Roger) Stuckman, stepdaughters, Diane Meyer and Donna Fuller all of Quincy.
Seven grandchildren: Kurt (Toni) Stuckman, Kristi (Scott) Stadler, Karen (Yuani) Ruiz, Suzanne Tappe, Kaila (Charles) Richards, Jared (Liz) Fuller and Ryan (Rachel) Stuckman.
Ten great grandchildren: Tanner (Olivia), Kate, Natalie, Petra, Chelsea, Emma, Aurora, Hallie, Sena and Madalynn. Silblings: Rome (Ginny) Ohnemus of Ventura, CA, Dale (Sandy) Ohnemus and Rosie (Kenny) Reichert of Quincy and three special people who are considered family: David and Patsy Cooley and Angie Dick.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Dan (Norma) Ohnemus, Betty (Bill) Waterman and Pat (Charlie) Meado.

Pallbearers are Kurt Stuckman, Ryan Stuckman, Tanner Stuckman, Jared Fuller, Stott Stadler and David Ohnemus. Honorary Pallbearers are Dale Peters, Bill Killday, Greg Frese, Kurt Flowers, Paul Schreacke and Tom Drieselman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted graveside.
Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 4:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to QND Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Messages for the family may be shared online at www.dukerandhaugh.com.
