Georgiann M. Cress
Georgiann Marie (Reed -Brower) Cress, 72, formerly of Quincy, died of cancer on February 27, 2015 in her home in Fort Myers, Florida.
She was born in Quincy on December 16, 1942 to the late George Reed and Johanna (Schott) Bergstrasser. She attended Quincy Notre Dame High School before transferring to and graduating from Quincy High School. She attended Gem City Business College and later received Associates Degrees in both political science and criminal justice from Polk Community College. She married David Walter Cress on June 11, 1988, in Quincy. He passed away on August 27, 2010.
Georgiann was a member of ‘The Debutantes’ junior all girls drum and bugle corps sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Quincy Post No. 5129. She worked for Weaver Airlines in Kansas City, Missouri; was a Roffler accredited men’s hair stylist in Peoria, Illinois; was a security guard and social worker for state government in Lakeland, Florida; and worked with her husband David at the Credit Bureau of Quincy which was formerly owned by him. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved traveling and the companionship of her Scottish Terriers. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cavaliers and a Chevrolet Corvette enthusiast.
Georgiann is survived by her children, Leisa M. Brower of Mineral Wells, Texas, Laura Comer and her husband, Kenneth, of Fort Myers, Florida; and her granddaughter Mackenzie Cress of Quincy.
Georgiann was preceded in death by her parents and her two “true loves” Jackie Leon Brower and David Walter Cress.
SERVICES: The ashes of both David Walter and Georgiann Marie will be interred at Calvary Cemetary on May 4th at 11:00 a.m.
VISITATION: Duker and Haugh Funeral Home Sunday, May 3rd from 2-5 p.m.
