George Schutte
George Ferdinand Schutte, age 88, of Quincy, died on Friday, September 23, 2011 in his home. He was born on July 21, 1923 in Quincy the son of Joseph A. & Rose M. (Vonderheide) Schutte. He married Edith M. Stone on October 8, 1947 in St. Francis Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2002.
Mr. Schutte was a devoted parishioner of St. Francis Catholic Church where he was an usher and was active in the St. Francis Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the WCU. George also served on the board of Calvary Cemetery.
George retired as a rural letter carrier after 36 years with the US Postal Service in Quincy. He was an avid farmer all his life beginning with truck gardening with his father and transitioning to livestock and then grain farming with his son and grandsons.
Survivors include a son and three daughters: David J. Schutte and his wife Janet of Payson, IL; Diane Dodd of Belleville, IL; Janet Schutte Monasterio and her husband Mario of Maple Grove, MN and Susan Kocanda of Lake Bluff, IL;
A SISTER: Ruth Peters; a BROTHER-IN-LAW: Arty Kelch; A SISTER-IN-LAW: Mary Neumann.
NINE GRANDCHILDREN: Joseph Schutte and his wife Cheryl of Quincy; Julie Masters and her husband Ryan of Camp Point, IL; Jason Schutte of Springfield, IL: Ben Dodd and his wife Sara and Adam Dodd all of St. Louis, MO; Garrett Monasterio of California; Colin Monasterio of Wisconsin, and Emily Kocanda and Matthew B. Kocanda of Chicago;
FOUR GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Kelsey Schutte, Jacob Masters, and Micah and Levi Dodd.
In addition to his wife, George was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Anna Marie, two sisters: Dorothy Kelch and Dolores Schutte, two brothers-in-law: John “Jack” Peters and Lawrence “Bud” Neumann and a son-in-law: Bernie Kocanda.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 25, 2011 at 11:00 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and a funeral mass at 11:30 in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home with a Knights of Columbus service at 6:00. Memorials may be made to Calvary Cemetery.
George was a great neighbor and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go to him and his family as I know he will be missed.
