George Richard “Rick” Emery, age 90, formerly of Coatsburg, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Curtis Creek Retirement Living Center. He was born on December 19, 1931 in Coatsburg, IL. He was the son of George Maple and Cora Frances (Marsh) Emery. He married Norma Jean Goerlich on September 1, 1952. She survives.

George was a farmer and also worked as a cement mason for Rose Construction for 42 years. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and attained the rank of Sgt. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He loved to pitch horseshoes, dance, and play billiards.

In addition to his wife, George is also survived by his children: Richard L. Emery (Anita Kim) of Quincy; Charles R. Emery of California, James L. Emery (Sharon) of Phoenix, AZ; Terry J. Emery (Serena) of Phoenix, AZ; Laurie J. Caputo (Lee J.) of Phoenix, AZ, Lois A. Myers (Robyn) of Quincy, a sister Barbara Willing of Camp Point, IL, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

George was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Grace Walker, Hazel McColez and Norma Lee McKenzie.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, following is the interment at Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #37 Honor Detail and the National Guard Honor Detail.
