George E. Kroeger, age 81, of Quincy died on Christmas Eve Sunday, December 24, 2017, at 5:15 p.m. in Blessing Hospital. George was born March 2, 1936, in Durham, MO, a son of George Lee and Lorena Isabelle (Schmid) Kroeger. On July 18, 1964, he married Karen S. Schlottman in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, and she survives.

George worked as a cabinetmaker at Huck Fixture Company. After the company closed, he did carpentry and construction work. He was a graduate of Durham High School in Durham, MO.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960. He was a member of the Church of St. Peter and the Knights of Columbus.

George loved caring for birds, gardening, hunting, and fishing.

In addition to his wife, survivors also include his children: David M. Kroeger and his partner Erik Kolacz of Chicago; Deborah A. Roberts and husband Bryan of St. Charles, MO; Daughter-in-law Jolie Lilly and husband Mike of Quincy; two grandchildren, Brendan and Emma Kroeger, both of Quincy; a brother Frank Kroeger of Durham, MO; three sisters: Gloria McDonald and husband Jack of Hull, IL; Joyce Wellman and husband Eugene of Columbia, MO; and Sonia Abell of Hannibal; brothers and sister-in-law, Steve Schlottman of St. Louis, MO; Linda McGrath and husband John of Dellwood, MO; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Daniel L. Kroeger; a brother James Kroeger; a sister Rose Beckman; a brother and a sister in infancy; two nephews, Philip and Tom Gengenbacher; and a niece, Valorie Travis.

Funeral services will be Friday, December 29, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter Catholic Church, by Monsignor Leo Enlow.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #37 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
