George E. Gordon
George E. Gordon, age 71, of the Illinois Veterans Home, died on Thursday, June 24, 2021. He was born on July 1, 1949 in Horton, KS, the son of Myrton and Ruth (Wenger) Gordon. He married Connie Burris on June 28, 1975. Mr. Gordon was a Nuclear Electrician for the United States Navy. Most of his time was aboard the USS James K. Polk. George was of the Catholic Faith.
George was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also was a Harley Davidson Motorcycle enthusiast.
In addition to his wife of 45 years, he is also survived by:
FOUR CHILDREN: Amy Guerry, Frederikus Gordon (Heather); Rebecca Busbin (Michael); and Annalise Smith (Joshua);
GRANDCHILDREN: Jerehmy Guerry (Gabriella); Sera Guerry, Noah Guerry; Eli Guerry, Ayden Busbin, Colin Busbin, Jessa Smith and Joshua Smith, Jr.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Elayna and Elliot Guerry.
SIBLINGS: Jean Willich (Keith); Harold Gordon and Lee Gordon (Cathy).
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives survive.
George was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Joshua Guerry.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment at Sunset Cemetery of the Illinois Veterans Home. Military rites will be conducted by the US Navy Honors Detail and the Illinois Veterans Home Honors Detail. There is no visitation, but friends are invited to the graveside services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home Activities Fund or to the Dolphin Scholarship Foundation to help members of the US Submarine Force and their dependents. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
