Gene Timpe

Gene Timpe, age 87, of 3513 Colonial Court, died on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 in St. Vincent Home. He was born on December 22, 1930, a son of Carl & Rosina (Kenning) Timpe. He attended St. Joseph Franciscan Seminary in Westmont, IL. Later he attended Gem City Business College. He then worked as a timekeeper for L & R Construction during the time that the City-County Building and Adams School were built. He then worked for T.C. Christner as office manager until he was drafted into the Army. While serving, he was stationed in Salzburg Austria from February 8, 1952 until January 31, 1954. After the Army, he went back with T.C. part time. He then went into the insurance business with his father in 1954, known as Timpe Insurance Agency, located at 615 ½ Hampshire. Later it was moved to 214 North 6th. After 45 years he retired January 11, 1999. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, and was a 62 year member of the V.F.W. He served as president of Quincy Association of Independent Insurance Agents, was president of the St. Francis Holy Name Society and a member of the First Parish Board of St. Francis. Gene had also served as president of the Quincy Rotary East and received the Paul Harris Award.

Gene loved traveling with his wife of 58 years, Judie. He cheered for the Fighting Irish and the St. Louis Cardinals, he tolerated the Cubs. He was a kind and generous father who always picked up the tab. He had a smile for everyone he met, and the thought of being buried on his birthday would have been met with a laugh. Gene was a good and faithful Catholic, a true believer, who is most certainly united with his Father in heaven.

Also surviving are FIVE CHILDREN: Marcia Schmidt and her husband Tom of Marion, Iowa; Michael Timpe of Quincy; Nancy Felde and her husband Steve of Quincy; Dan Timpe and his wife Gail of Cape Girardeau, MO; and Sara Reeder and her husband Bryan of Quincy.

    Dan, Gail and Family,
Megs and I are sorry to hear about Gene. He was a wonderful man and we appreciate his kindness to us. His positive outlook and energy (i.e. dancing at Lauren’s wedding and stories of his road trips with Judy) will always be remembered.

    Take care of one another.

    We love you!
    Irene and Megan

What a blessing it was getting to know Gene Timpe! Him and his wife Judy welcomed myself and my kids into their family with open arms. Always had a smile on his face and full of such friendly conversation. We were both Cardinal fans so it was always fun commentary at all the family functions who were predominately Cubs fans. Going to miss Gene very much! Prayers to his wife and all of his family and friends!

    The Timpe Family,

It was always such a pleasure to see Gene when we visited from Chicago. I enjoyed speaking with Gene and listening to him boast about the love of his life, Judy. We did not see each other much but regardless Gene was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed.
