Gary P. Henderson
Gary P. Henderson, age 80, of Quincy, died on Saturday, January 7, 2023 in his home. He was born on February 21, 1942 in Canton, MO the son of Harry Nathaniel ‘Nat’ and Vangel (Sweet) Henderson. He married Karen Killday in St. Francis Church on April 20, 1968. She survives.
Gary was a union carpenter and worked at Huck Fixtures for 26 years. He started Nat Henderson Trucking with his sons and wife, and then went on to deliver fuel for TNT Oil and parts for Quincy Mac, all of which he loved. He served in the Illinois Army National Guard as a supply clerk and The United States Army Reserve as a Drill Sergeant, respectively. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Early in life, Gary was an avid horseman, attending many horse shows with his children and wife. He was a coach at heart, coaching his children at a young age in regard to baseball and basketball, and gave coaching advice to his own sons for their children later in life. He enjoyed hunting with his brother, his brothers-in-law, and sons. Early on, Gary enjoyed working on and racing cars, sharing his love of cars with his sons and even his grandsons later in life. Gary was an accomplished trap shooter, attending many local shooting facilities and state shoots. He enjoyed all of these things, sharing his true joy with his children and grandchildren.

CHILDREN: Garen Henderson (Angie) of Liberty, IL; Jason Henderson (Joy) of Bloomington, IL and Heath Henderson of Quincy.
GRANDCHILDREN: Lantz Henderson and Gavin Henderson; Dylan Henderson, Charlie Henderson and Ryan Henderson; Danielle Hucklenbrick (Josh), Joshua England and Isabelle Henderson.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Hayley and Asher
SISTER: Kay Herrington
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Sam Henderson along with his wife Jeanne and a brother-in-law: Tom Herrington.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Inurnment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery by the Illinois National Guard Honor Detail and the American Legion Post #37. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice or to the West Quincy Gun Club. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Sincere condolences for your loss. I graduated LHS Class of 1958 with Sammy. I shared Gary’s love of cars late ’50s and early ’60s.
Karen and kids, I’m so sorry to hear of Gary’s passing. You’s were such great neighbors back in the day. All the kids enjoyed playing with one another. Karen, I’ll never forget the time you and Chris killed the fake snake in your backyard. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May God give you peace and strength now and in the future. Gary was a great friend. Always there to lend you an expensive gun when yours broke. I enjoyed all the fun times we had at different places we shot at. He’ll be missed greatly.

I will miss Gary very much! Having met him only 25 years ago through Dan, he was always kind, soft spoken and funny.. he was always helpful and gave great advice when shooting. He was a gentle kind spirit and he reminded me of my dad. We had many funny conversations! We will miss him greatly…our condolences!
