G. LaVerne Oitker, age 99, of Good Samaritan Home, formerly of Liberty, IL, died on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 in the Home. She was born on May 26, 1919, in rural Liberty, the daughter of Fred and Sylvia L. (Balzer) DeWitt. She married Merle A. Oitker in Hannibal, Missouri on May 14, 1941. He preceded her in death on May 21, 1995. LaVerne was a member of the Richfield United Methodist Church.

LaVerne is survived by twin sons: Gaylord (Carolyn) Oitker, Plainville, IL and Gail Oitker, Quincy; grandchildren: Jerry, Gary, Stephanie, Jennifer Oitker; great-grandchildren: Kristen and Taryn Oitker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle; daughter-in-law, Janet Oitker; granddaughter, Melissa Oitker; sisters, Wilma Ham, Lola Evans and brothers, Virgil DeWitt and Fred DeWitt, Jr.

The family would like to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Home, Blessing Hospice and Pastor Lois Sorrill for the wonderful care given to LaVerne.

Private graveside services will be held in Stewart Cemetery, Plainville, IL. Memorials may be made to Richfield Methodist Church or Liberty Christian Church. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
