Frederick L. “Fritz” Thomas

Frederick L. “Fritz” Thomas, age 89, of Quincy, died on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 4:15 p.m. in Blessing Hospital. He was born on November 23, 1924 in the town of Ancell in Scott County, MO, a son of George & Catherine (Seifert) Thomas.
Fritz attended St. Boniface Grade School, Quincy College Academy and Notre Dame High School He entered the U.S. Army in March of 1943 and served as an infantryman in the 103rd Division in the European Theatre. Among the awards and decorations he received were the ETO Ribbon with 3 Battle Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star Medal.
He attended Oklahoma State University and Quincy College graduating in 1949 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve and the U.S. Air Force and retired from the Air Force in 1967. After a period of work in Oak Ridge, TN, he returned to Quincy in 1969.
Fritz enjoyed traveling and made many trips to Europe, Canada and throughout the USA. He also enjoyed fishing, card playing and spending time at the Quincy Public Library and Senior Citizens Center.
He was an Honorary Life Member of the Knight of Columbus, and had been a member since 1946.
Survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Kenneth & James Thomas; and five sisters, Marguerite Haroz, Gertrude Thomas, Helen Sulliven, Clara Peck and Mary Ann Prather.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery with military honors conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
