Freddie Lee Lewis
Freddie Lee Lewis, age 65, of 2419 Shelts Lane, Quincy, died on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 in Sunset Home. He was born on August 26, 1946 in Pittsfield, IL, a son of John W. and Nora L. (Long) Lewis. He married Nancy S. Markley on June 9, 1971 in Plainville, IL. She survives.
Freddie graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1964. He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed by Electric Wheel/Titan Wheel for 28 years. He was a long-time member of the Moose Lodge and at the time of his death was a Rocky Point Club member.
Freddie was an avid bowler and he recorded two perfect 300 and one 298 point games. He was a big Cardinals fan and enjoyed watching Nascar and his favorite driver, Carl Edwards. He could always be found watching baseball, basketball, football or other sports.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, he is survived by two children, Scott Markley and Darla Butler and her husband Dave, all of Quincy; six grandchildren, Scott Jr., Kayla, Jordyn, April, Mikel and Faith; a brother, Samuel Lewis and his wife Eva; a sister, Rixie Sue Fuqua; and sister-in-laws, Violet Lewis and Kathy Lewis; several nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gerald and Robert Lewis and stepfather, Claire McDaniel.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriners Children’s Hospital. www.dukerandhaugh.com
Sorry to hear about the loss of Freddie. I helped take care of Freddie when he was in the Rehab Unit at Blessing Hospital. Sorry I won’t be able to make it to the visitation or funeral, but will be praying for you all during this very difficult time. May God bless you and may you feel his presence and comfort!
