Fred E. Gill

Fred E. Gill, age 97, of Sunset Home, formerly of 301 N. 8th St. and Plainville, IL, died on Thursday, March 19, 2015 in the home. He was born on February 24, 1918 in Glenmora, LA, a son of Thomas Gill. He was raised by Mr.& Mrs. Nathan Lofton. He married Inez Jackson on May 13, 1944 in Indianapolis, IN. She preceded him in death on February 7, 2008.

Fred served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a lifelong farmer and also worked at the flour mill in Indianapolis. Fred liked to go fishing, and was fond of his pet dogs, Penny and Pepper. He was known for his wit and being a jokester. Trips to the doctor were not complete without going for some chicken at KFC afterwards. Fred loved to eat, and had a sweet tooth.

Fred was a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church.

He is survived by a step-son-in-law, Russell C. Bufford and his wife Beverly of Sun City, AZ; three step-grandchildren, Nancy Ann Maley and her husband Richard of Surprise , AZ, Gary Bufford and his wife Dawn and David Bufford and his wife Juanita, all of Kankakee, IL, eleven step-great-grandchildren, twenty-two step-great-great grandchildren and close friends and caregivers Dave and Cindy Yuchs.
Nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his wife, Inez, he was preceded in death by a step-daughter Phyllis A. Bufford, a step-grandson Timothy Bufford and three brothers, Stamps, Elliott and James Gill .

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will be held at St. Brigid Cemetery, Liberty. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials are suggested to Sunset Home.
