Frank Noel Johnson
Frank Noel Johnson, 72, of 1430 South 36th Street, Quincy, IL, died on Sunday, January 3, 2010, at 4:13 p.m. in Blessing Hospital. He was born on December 28, 1937 in Rockford, Illinois, a son of Arthur and Violet (Burning) Johnson. He married Norma Jean “Snooks” Schreacke on June 1, 1968 in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She survives.
He was a 1957 graduate of Beloit, WI High School. He served in the National Guard and the United States Army.
Frank was a member of the Church of St. Peter.
He worked in the auto industry as a parts manager for over 35 years at Geise Buick, Pruitt Lincoln & Mercury, Tom Boland Ford, and Steve Nosser Ford. He was employed for a number of years by Fierge Auto Parts. He was an owner and operator of Schreacke Egg Farm & Cheese. He also owned Performance Karts and he worked with his son and daughter at Arthur Leigh Jewelers.
Frank coached at the Catholic Youth Organization & the Y.M.C.A. He was a C.Y.O. board member for twenty years. Frank was an Honorary Coach for the Q.N.D. Tip-Off Tourney for many years. He was a member of the World Karting Association and the International Karting Federation.
Frank was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. Karting was an activity he enjoyed with his sons. Frank always looked forward to morning coffee with “the boys”.
In addition to his wife Norma, survivors include four children: Jennifer Kewney and her husband Kevin of Quincy, Joe Johnson and his wife Christa of Quincy, Jeffrey Johnson and his wife Buffy of Tipton, IA, and Jenna Johnson of Quincy; and grandchildren: Nathan and David Kewney, Ethan and Ava Johnson, Paige, Jayson, and Brody Johnson.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Arthur and Esther “Tutz” Schreacke, and Leonard and Mary Schreacke .
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2010, at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter by Reverend John Burnette. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted graveside by the American Legion Post #37. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home, with a parish prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Catholic Youth Organization, The Quincy Notre Dame Basketball Program, or to The Frank Johnson Memorial Kart Race.
I’m so sorry to hear of your fathers passing. You might not remember me,but your family used to drive up to Rockford and stay in our back yard. We loved it when you would come and visit. We were all kids then,running around. I was working on a family tree and that’s how I found out that your father had passed away. Again I’m so sorry for your loss. My mother has passed away also,she has M.S. I hope you will feel free to email me,I would like to stay in touch.
Frank was a great guy who will be missed greatly by all. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.
Snooks, I was shocked to read on a CB/ND class of 62 blog that Frank passed away. This is Tuesday night and too late to call Diana—I am in South Padra Texas for the next 10 days but want you to know that my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.
Was so very saddened by the news of Frank’s passing. Had alot of phone contact with Frank, I will miss his voice, he was a very nice man.
