Frank Joseph Sakulenzki

Frank Joseph Sakulenzki, age 60, of Quincy, died Monday, December 1, 2014 in his home. He was born on December 2, 1953 in Aurora, IL, a son of Josef & Theresia (Rottinger) Sakulenzki. He married Barbara J. Neeley on November 24, 1973, and she survives.

Frank was raised in the Chicago area. He played saxophone in the Almenrausch Trio Polka Band with his father and Uncle Joe. Frank also played with the Almenrausch Brass Band and Gordon Tech High School Band.

Frank enjoyed restoring old homes, his parents being immigrants from Yugoslavia, instilled in him an appreciation of music and craftsmanship. Frank moved to Quincy in 1976 to renovate old buildings. He was a perfectionist and strived to bring back the beauty of the German craftsmanship in Quincy’s older homes. To Frank, any building could be saved. He purchased the Pear Tree Villa in 1979 renovating it to small retail businesses and offices. Frank also participated in renovation projects at John Wood Mansion, Dr. Richard Eells House, Farmers Bank of Liberty both Liberty and Quincy locations, Pinochios and Shakey Jakes restaurants, John and Marie Harts Park Hotel and Locust Street home and many homes in Quincy’s historical areas.

Frank was also proud of being a part of St. Peter Boy Scouts with his sons. He participated in Philmont and Sea Base trips along with campouts at his Durham farm. Especially when a scout chose to have his Eagle ceremony at the farm, it gave Frank a feeling of all the Scouts accomplishments.

In addition to his wife and high school sweetheart of forty-one years, Barb, he is survived by sons Greg Sakulenzki and his wife Angie and Brian Sakulenzki; grandchildren, Christian, Aaliyah, Natalie & Hailey all of Quincy; his parents, Josef and Theresia Sakulenzkiof McAllen, TX; a brother Nick; sisters-in-law, Linda, Brenda, Debbie and Vanessa; brothers-in-law, Gary, Donnie and Tony; nieces Christine, Evyn, Lisa, Angela, Nicole and Michelle; nephews, David, Chris, Jonathan, Jeremy, Paul, Scott, Gary, Scott and many great nieces & nephews (especially Shelby, Bailey & Addy) and many, many friends who respected and admired his dedication of saving homes from destruction.

He was preceded in death by his Oma Anna, brother Joe, in-laws Samuel & Caledia Neeley and great-niece Cassie.
The family would like to extend many thanks to Dr. Michael Kirkpatrick and Dr. Raymond Smith for their wonderful care.

A memorial prayer service will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. by Fr. John Kennedy at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Blessing Foundation for Hospice. www.dukerandhaugh.com

    Barb and Family:

I met Frank when my oldest son Anthony was a boy scout in St. Peter Troop 5. Frank was genuinely interested in my boys succeeding in the troop and earning Eagle Scout like his son’s Greg and Brian did. My son’s Anthony, Matthew and Mark all earned Eagle Scout.
