Frank J. Meyer

Frank J. Meyer, age 88, of St. Vincent’s Home, formerly of 507 Holford Dr., Quincy, died on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 9:38 a.m. in Blessing Hospital Emergency Room. He was born on January 9, 1926 in Burton Township, Illinois, a son of John V. & Elizabeth (Benz) Meyer. He married Isabelle Koyer on October 5, 1968 in St. Mary Catholic Church. She survives.

Frank served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Electric Wheel in Quincy after many years of service.

He was a member of the Church of St. Peter where he participated in the Adoration Chapel for many years. He also was a member of the Machinist Lodge, the American Legion Post #37 and Western Catholic Union.

Frank was a regular blood donor, donating many gallons over the years.

Frank was the family archivist and a wonderful uncle who enjoyed and took care of his nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews. He loved flowers, he grew beautiful tulips and truly enjoyed gardening. He grew the biggest tomatoes, and he canned and cooked his produce to share with his family.

In addition to his wife, Isabelle, he is survived by a brother Ambrose Meyer of Payson and many nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George, Marcelles, Albert, Johnny and Leonard Meyer; a sister Mary Meyer.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #37 and the Illinois National Guard Honors Detail. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Church of St. Peter. www.dukerandhaugh.com

    So sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great uncle and a kind man. They do not make them like that anymore.
