Forrest E. Waters
Forrest E. Waters, 89, of Liberty, died at 3:28 a.m. (July 5, 2010) in Blessing Hospital.
He was born January 27th, 1921 north of Fishhook, IL at “Snake Den Holler”, a son of Archie L. and Alma F. Mayfield Waters. He married Alice Black on December 31st, 1946, in New Bedford, Massachusetts. She survives.
Mr. Waters was an Air Traffic Controller for the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) at Quincy’s Baldwin Field Airport for 17 years while simultaneously farming just 3 miles northeast of Liberty. After retiring from the FAA in 1971 he continued to pursue “the most expensive hobby” he ever had, farming. He enjoyed golf, traveling, and woodworking tools. Forrest and Alice spent winters in LaFeria Texas.
Mr. Waters served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1947 as an Aviation Radio Man, 2nd class and received the American Theatre and WWII Victory medals.
He was a ScoutMaster for the Boys Scouts, Lions Club and American Legion member and a 32nd degree Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; three daughters, Cathy Austin and her husband Jack of Woodland Hills, California, Joanne Waters of Liberty, Susan Waters and husband Christopher Brown of Issaquah, Washington ; two sons, Jeff Waters of Gurnee, Illinois and Bill F. Waters and wife Nancy of Liberty, daughter-in-law Teri Waters of Kansas;
15 grandchildren, Jason Whitson of Colorado, Jim Whitson of Texas, Sara, Ross, and Kyle Waters of Kansas, Erin Waters of Ohio, Ian Waters and wife Heather of North Carolina, Jessica and Fiona Waters of Des Plaines, Illinois, Brian D. Waters of Chicago, Illinois, Forrest A. Waters of Champaign-Urbana, Brian M. Waters and Spencer N. Waters both of Liberty; Isabella and Jacob Brown of Washington; 3 great-grandchildren, Dylan of North Carolina, Zeyta and Vann Whitson of Colorado; and one brother, Herbert Waters and his wife, Thelma, of Quincy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Richard Waters; four brothers, Lee, Kendall, Gerald, Carl “Pete” Waters; and a sister, Genevieve Pierce.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Memories of Uncle Forrest always bring a smile-I pray that your memories carry you through this tough time and that his life not be forgotten. He was a wonderful man and will be missed.
