Forrest E. “Gene” Young

Forrest E. “Gene” Young, age 72, of Quincy, IL, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Blessing Hospital. Gene was born on October 29, 1942 in Kinderhook, IL, a son of Dallas & Lena (Badgley) Young. He married Barbara Hawkins in Waukegan, IL. She preceded him in death on January 9, 1995.

Gene served in the United States Army as a supply clerk. He enjoyed reading, working jigsaw puzzles, family gatherings and his time at the Veteran’s Home in Quincy.

He was employed as a janitor for fifteen years in Libertyville School System. Gene also worked for several schools in the Chicago area. He was a janitor and security guard in Albuquerque, New Mexico for several years.

Survivors include one brother, Charles “Bill” (Joan) Young, of Pittsfield, IL two sisters, Shirley Streeter of Pittsfield, IL and Bettie Smith of Bloomington, IL, along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, he was preceded in death by sisters Margorie & Marguerite Young, Mary (Dale) Brown, Barbara (Roland) Hamm, Lelah (Jerry) Goodyear and Virginia (Leroy) VanVleet; brothers James, Dallas Jr. (Helen) and Lawrence Young; and brother-in-law Melvin Streeter.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veteran’s Home with military honors conducted at the cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Illinois Veteran’s Home Residents Benefit (Activities) Fund.
