Farris L. Viar age 90, of Quincy, and formerly of rural Liberty died on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 7:50 a.m. in Good Samaritan Home. He was born November 25, 1926 in rural Camp Point, IL a son of Lloyd and Geraldine (Grunwald) Viar. He married Dorothy Gramke on May 29, 1952 in St. Brigid Church in Liberty, IL, and she preceded him in death on April 25, 2015.

Farris farmed in the rural Clayton, IL area the majority of his life. He was also a carpenter and worked as a laborer. He was retired from Firestone/Electric Wheel.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Farris was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.
He loved country music and spending time in the company of his grandchildren, often playing Pinochle and Rummy. Farris was mechanically inclined and would work on and fix all kinds-of things. He was also meticulous about his yard.

Survivors include his children, Alice Kirby and her husband Kevin of Homer, IL; Anna Bollom and her husband Dean of Stoughton, WI and Larry Viar and his wife Debra of Quincy; Nine grandchildren, Kate and Becci Kirby; Patrick (Amanda) Kirby; Ryan (Julie) Kirby; James and Jason Bollom; Mandy (Tyler) Mills; Emily and Erin Viar. Eight great-grandchildren, a brother, Ed Viar of Quincy and a sister, Faunda Dreyer of Pigeon Forge, TN and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, sisters, Mae (Cecil) Bowen and Shirley (Bob) Richardson; a brother-in-law, Elmer Dreyer and a sister-in-law, Rita Viar.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter, by the Monsignor Leo Enlow. Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Church of St. Peter.
