Evelyn Shull Duesterhaus

Evelyn Shull Duesterhaus, age 90, of Quincy, died on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 5:45 a.m. in St. Vincent’s Home. Evelyn was born in Marion County, MO on March 21, 1920, a daughter of Frank and Anna (Booth) Shull. She was a 1938 graduate of Quincy High School.

Evelyn married Harry Helterbran in Chicago, IL and he preceded her in death. Harry was in the transportation business, which involved over thirty-five moves for the couple during that career. Evelyn worked in several banks in the various cities that they lived in, and she enjoyed playing golf.

After Harry’s death, Evelyn moved to Quincy and later married Virgil Duesterhaus. He died in February 2010. Virgil was a former sheriff for Adams County and was retired from the State of Illinois.

Survivors include a sister Elaine Solenberger of Quincy, and a brother, J.D. Shull of Quincy. Nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar Shull and a sister Patricia Leach.

Funeral services are planned for Friday, February 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Blessing Hospital Foundation for HOSPICE.
