Evelyn M. Schutte

Evelyn M. Schutte, age 88, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 725 Santa Maria Drive, died on Friday, January 27, 2017 in the Home. She was born on March 18, 1928 in St. Louis, MO the daughter of Robert & Clarecy (Myers) Berndanner. She married Ernest Schutte on January 22, 1949 in St. John Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1991. Evelyn is a member of the Church of St. Peter and was a former long-time member of St. John Catholic Church.

Evelyn worked at several occupations throughout the years. She always enjoyed helping people and her favorite occupation was the years at the ‘Elite Petite’. Evelyn was a volunteer at Blessing Hospital’s Tea Room. She loved to dance and along with her husband enjoyed attending the many activities at Eagles Alps. She also liked her yardwork, especially cutting the grass.

Evelyn greatly cherished the special bond that she and her three sisters shared throughout the years.

She is survived by:
THREE CHILDREN: Greg Schutte and his wife Kathy of Quincy; Judy Heming and her husband Michael of Mendon, and Barb Stegeman of Quincy.
SEVEN GRANDCHILDREN: Kelley Hacker and her husband Dean; Brent Schutte and his wife Jennifer; Scott Schutte and his wife Laura; Christopher Heming and his wife Crystal; Jennifer Breckenkamp and her husband Brian; Jeremy Stegeman and his wife Sarah; and Lynsey Snyder and her husband Michael.
FOURTEEN GREAT-GRANCHILDREN: Lauren and Meredith Hacker; Evan and Kate Schutte; Landen and Kendall Schutte; Carson and Carlee Heming; Eva and Calvin Breckenkamp; Kaitlyn and Rowan Stegeman; Parker Stegeman and Blake Snyder.
ONE SISTER: Beverly Peters and her husband Lowell
ONE BROTHER-IN-LAW: Junior Fleer
Evelyn’s long-time companion: Lyle Bowen.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to her husband, Evelyn was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother Raymond Berndanner in childhood, sisters: Emma Fleer and Loretta Eberhardt along with her husband Robert.

Evelyn’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff of the Foose Center at the Good Samaritan Home for the wonderful care they gave Evelyn these last 15 months.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 9:30 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM in the Church of St. Peter. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Adams County, the Foose Center at the Good Samaritan Home or Church of St. Peter. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
