Evelyn Dorothy Grossman
Evelyn Dorothy Grossman, age 87, of 632 Pawn Ave., died on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 10:35 AM in Blessing Hospital. She was born on July 11, 1926 in Quincy, a daughter of William and Anna (Schutte) Thein. She married John Clement Grossman on October 14, 1950 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1992.
Evelyn attended St. John’s Grade School and Quincy High. After high school she worked at the Quincy Map Office making maps for the military during WWII. She later worked at Motorola and in housekeeping at the Quincy Mall until her retirement. She was a member of the Church of St. Peter.
Evelyn loved spending time with family. She especially enjoyed the grandchildren and great grandchildren and took great interest in their activities. She kept in contact with all of her children by calling at least once a week. After Evelyn’s retirement she was active in volunteer work at Blessing Hospital and RSVP.
She is survived by her children: Dennis (Danita Ohnemus) Grossman of Quincy, Mark (Diana Redfearn) Grossman of Crossroads, TX, James Grossman of Boca Raton, FL, Janet Cummings of Dallas, TX, Donna (Dr. Ted) Pawlias of Macomb, and Lori (Garry) Gibbs of Hamilton. NINE GRANDCHILDREN: Daniel (Tatjana) Grossman of Payson, Dawn (Curt) Schenk of Quincy, Emily and Bailey Cummings of Dallas, TX, Tayler Grossman of Boca Raton, FL, Anna, Abigail, Parker and Olivia Gibbs all of Hamilton and THREE GREAT GRANDCHILDREN. Many nieces, nephews, friends and family also survive.
In addition to her husband, John, and her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Wilbur Thien, five sisters, Edith Chandler, Anna Mae Phillips, Helen Gerding, Margaret Maas & Virginia Halfpap and a son-in-law Gary Cummings.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Church of St. Peter. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 9:30 until 10:30 at the Church of St. Peter. Memorials may be made to the Church of St. Peter, American Diabetes Association, or to the Quincy Humane Society. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. www.dukerandhaugh.com
