Eugene “Gene” F. Derhake
Eugene “Gene” F. Derhake, age 83, of Bradford Villa, formerly of 1201 N. 14th Street, Quincy, died on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 8:10 a.m. in the Villa. He was born on January 17, 1927 in Quincy, Illinois, a son of Frank & Virginia (Dierkes) Derhake. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Wavering on June 28, 1952 in St. Boniface Catholic Church, and she survives.
Gene was a graduate of Quincy High School. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and was stationed in the South Pacific. He was a carpenter and he worked for Huck Fixture Company and Kmart for thirty years until his retirement in 1992.
He was a member of the former St. John the Baptist Church, where he helped maintain the church with his carpentry skills for many years. Gene was presently a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He was a member of the Great River Woodcarver’s Association, AMVETS Post 76, and Northside Boat Club, the Carpenter’s Union, American Legion, and the Volunteer Emergency Corps.
In his younger years, he enjoyed duck & squirrel hunting. In his retirement, he enjoyed going to his camp, known as “Joe’s Acres.”

EIGHT GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Kyla Frizell, Taten Huber, Ellina & Keegan Sunde, Okiah and Kamora Davis, Gunnar and HarLen Derhake;
ONE SISTER: Sr. Mary Virginia Derhake of Springfield, IL.
Several nieces & nephews also survive.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, a son Joseph Derhake, and a brother Frank Derhake.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Masses may be given in his name or memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
