Eugene C. “Gene” Mettemeyer
Eugene C. “Gene” Mettemeyer, age 59, of 1248 E. 2400th Place, Camp Point, IL died on Friday, August 24, 2012 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 13, 1952 in Quincy, the son of Albert & Alta (Reckers) Mettemeyer. Gene was a 1970 Graduate of Liberty High School. He married Michelle “Shelly” Wand on September 30, 1978 in St. Joseph Catholic Church by Father Joseph Zimmerman. She survives. Gene worked for the City of Quincy starting on August 16 of 1973. He worked for 24 years at the Adams County Landfill and then 14 years for the Quincy Transit Lines. He retired due to ill health in November of 2011 after more than 38 years of service. Along with his wife, Gene was also the co-owner of the Grove Inn Bar & Grill for 23 years.
Gene was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. Gene was also a St. Louis Cardinals Fan and a Chicago Bears Fan. He greatly loved spending time with his family and friends. He also greatly loved his dogs, “Sandy” & “Lady”.

THREE CHILDREN: Jason Mettemeyer and his wife Celeste of Liberty, IL; Nicholas G. Mettemeyer and his wife Lisa of Springfield, IL; and Ashley Mettemeyer of Quincy
SIX GRANDCHILDREN: Aspyn Mettemeyer, Leah Mettemeyer, Brooklyn Mettemeyer, Madisyn Mettemeyer, Jasmyn Mettemeyer and Tanner Jud.
THREE BROTHERS: Bob Mettemeyer and his wife Leona; Rich Mettemeyer and his wife Linda; Jim Mettemeyer and his wife Carol.
FOUR SISTERS: Marilyn Hildebrand and her husband Alvin; Elaine Genenbacher and her husband Jim; Rita Zehnle and Joyce Terwelp and her husband Kenny.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Michael Mettemeyer, a brother in law: Larry Zehnle and a Nephew Damian Vogel.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 9:45 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:30 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice, St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the Blessing Cancer Center.
