Ethel Virginia Godman

Ethel Virginia Godman age 71, of Fowler died on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 12:51 p.m. in Blessing Hospital. She was born March 22, 1946 in Quincy a daughter, of Earl and Ruby (Tournear) Wakefield.

Ethel was a CNA who attended Blessing College of Nursing, and began her nursing career at Blessing Hospital. In 2010, retired from the Illinois Veteran’s Home. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Camp Point. Ethel had served as president of AFSCME Local.

Ethel most importantly loved her family and spending time with them. She was creative and enjoyed arts, crafts, crocheting and quilting. She liked to garden, did a lot of canning, cooking and having cookouts. Ethel liked traveling and went on several ocean cruises with her sister-in-law, Cheryl Wakefield.

Survivors include her children, Vicky Windoffer of Sarasota, FL and Ricky Godman and his wife Taunua of Hannibal, MO; grandchildren: Jenna Phillips and her husband James, of Sarasota; Lindsey Tarman and her husband Josh of Avondale, AZ; great-grandson: Jackson Phillips of Sarasota; a brother, Richard Wakefield and his wife, Judy of Quincy; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Dale and Roger Wakefield; and sister, Sharon Kay Wakefield.

Ethel’s family extends their gratitude to Rose Keller, for her many years of kindness and caring for Ethel.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Camp Point. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh. Memorials are suggested to the Blessing Cancer Center for Breast Cancer Patients or to the American Heart Association.
