Esther Lee Hofmeister

Esther Lee Hofmeister age 92, of the Barry Community Care Center, formerly of 201 Manderly Lane, Liberty died on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 1:00 a.m. in Barry. Esther was born December 19, 1920 in Richfield, IL a daughter of Clarence and Rosetta (Oitker) Lease. She married Charles Leo Hofmeister on February 5, 1938 in Hannibal, Missouri in a ceremony officiated by Reverend Lee Craig. The couple was married in Missouri because it was less expensive, at a cost of $5.00. Leo preceded her in death on April 7, 2005.

Esther was a homemaker. She and Leo moved to the family farm east of Liberty where they lived and worked together for 53 years, moving into Liberty in 2003. Esther was a graduate of Payson High School and a member of Kingston United Methodist Church. She was happiest outdoors enjoying her flowers, gardening, hummingbirds and hunting for geodes.

Esther was thrilled to have five granddaughters and they were her pride and joy.

Survivors include her son Myron Hofmeister and his wife Esther of Prophetstown, IL; a daughter-in-law, Roberta Hofmeister of Pittsfield, IL; Five granddaughters, Kelly Eckburg and her husband Jeff; Kimberly Hofmeister, Amy Hofmeister, Leesa Crawford and her husband Randy and Heidi Dillinger; 2 step-grandchildren, Bill Orrill and his wife Anita; and Shon Orrill and his wife Melissa. 12 Great-Grandchildren: Alexandra, Adam and Anna Eckburg; Daren and Dakota Daniels; Kayla (Andy) Derhake; Evan Crawford; Cole and Jake Dillinger; Collins, Chase & Delanie Orrill; a great-great grandson Liam Derhake and several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Steven Hofmeister and her three brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home in Quincy by Rev Lois Sorrill. Interment will be in Kingston Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 12:30 until the time of services at Duker & Haugh. Memorials are suggested to Kingston United Methodist Church. www.dukerandhaugh.com

    Esther lee was a fine lady with a happy smile and laugh, she is up in heaven with the rest of her Kingston Church family, our condolences to the family
