Most recently I enjoyed Ernie and Dorothy’s fun time at the QU pool with the Waterbugs. However, he and my dad worked together at GD the same 43 years, He hired me with respect for my dad. Fooled them both and lasted until the bi big lay-off. He gave me the advice to go back to school. I know all his friends and relatives will miss him…especially his nephew, Curtis. I imagine he and Dad are trading jokes and talking about the Cardinals, Sleep in peace, Ernie and my prayers to Dorothy and family.

I have been so blessed to have Ernie and Dorothy in my life for 65 years, and I will always cherish the visits and the shrimp dinners as they traveled through Tallahassee, Florida on their way to Palmetto over the past 12 years. From the day they were married in my parents’ home in Jacksonville, to the most recent visit we had in January of this year, Ernie was a shining light and a friend I will always love as my Mom and Dad did. Rachel and I pray for peace, comfort and strength for Dorothy and Katherine — we trust in the Lord’s promise of eternal life and know we will be reunited with him. We look forward to that joyous day.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I didn’t know either of you very well but thankful for the small amount of time I’ve had the opportunity to spend with you while visiting my grandparents, Guido & Barbara Merkel, with my mom, Tammy. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. -Brandy Hawthorne and family.
