Emil Joseph ‘Joe’ Sohn, Jr.

Emil Joseph “Joe” Sohn, Jr. age 77, of Quincy, Illinois died Tuesday, October 26th at Blessing Hospital.

Joe was born August 21, 1944, in Quincy, the son of Emil J. Sr and Mary Matticks Sohn. He married Judith Sherman on August 7th, 1965 in Quincy. She survives.

Joe was a 1962 graduate of Quincy Senior High School. He was a member of the Illinois National Guard. Before retiring Joe worked as a salesman for Rouse Roofing. After retirement he and Judy decided to operate the White Horse Tavern. He especially enjoyed meeting the guys at the tavern every morning for coffee and their daily morning board meeting, of which he was Chairman of the Board.

Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time with his grandsons, spending his winters in Florida, and watching the Green Bay Packers play football.

Joe was of the Catholic faith.

In addition to his wife, Judy, Joe is survived by his daughter, Christina Knight and her husband Todd of Quincy; his grandsons Connor Knight and Cole Knight; three brothers Ed (Barb) Sohn, Roger Sohn, and Steve (Donna) Sohn, all of Quincy; six sisters Doris (Martin) Karhoff, Mary Lou (Dave) Elsie, Alice Waelder, Jane (Robert) Brown, Marge (Steve) Hilgenbrink all of Quincy, and Kate (Kevin) Specht of Fort Worth, Texas. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives survive.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Thomas Sohn and Anthony Sohn.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 10:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

    I am so very sorry for the passing of Joe. Joe and Judith used to come into Ted’s Shirt Shack to order shirts. He was so nice and funny.
