Elmer D. Wilkey
Elmer D. Wilkey age 95, of 1736 Adams St. Quincy died on Thursday, October 14, 2010 in Blessing Hospital. Elmer was born December 13, 1914 in Columbus, IL a son of Lewis and Edith (Hollenstine) Wilkey. He married Frauliene McKee on August 30, 1943 in Palmyra, MO, and she preceded him in death on June 13, 2001.
Elmer retired in 1980 after 27 years with Brower Manufacturing. He then worked as a Custodian for Adams County Farm Bureau. He served under General George Patton in the U.S. Army during World War II, seeing action in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Elmer was awarded
the Bronze Star, 5 Battle Stars and a Good Conduct Medal for his service.
He enjoyed gardening and canning his own tomatoes and beans. Elmer loved walking his dog Holley, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughter, Phyllis Hoebing and her husband Larry of Taylor, MO;
Two grandchildren, Bryon Jones and his friend Lori Thoenen of Palmyra, MO
and Jami Davis and her husband Mark of Payson, IL.
Six Great Grandchildren, Cory, Cole and Cyle Jones; and Brent, Dalton and Austin Davis,
A nephew, Merle Blentinger of Fowler, IL;
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his sisters, Pearl Blentlinger, Iona Ausmus, Grace Wilkey and Hazel Broemmer and a brother, Ernie Wilkey.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Dan Bergbower. Interment will be in Quincy Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #37. Visitation will be Saturday from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
