Elizabeth Reid
OBITUARY ON ELIZABETH REID
Elizabeth Reid, age 56, of 729 Ridgewood Drive, Quincy, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2015 in Blessing Hospital after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was born on August 18, 1959 in Portsmith, VA the daughter of Verne and Veronica (Kelly) Hagstrom. She married Jeff Reid on June 4, 2009 in Quincy. He survives.
Being the daughter of a career Navy officer, Liz lived in many places before her parents settled in Quincy in 1974. She loved Quincy and made it her home the rest of her life.
A “people person”, Liz was always the one everybody loved to be around. Any type of gathering, whether it be family related or not, the question everyone asked was “Will Liz be there?” Liz’s kindness and outgoing nature attracted people to her and she loved helping others. This was evident in her career choices. She spent several years as a stylist in the J.C. Penny Styling Salon. No matter the occasion, she was always ready to help her customers look their best. Later as an employee at the Illinois Driver’s License facility it was common for dozens of people a month to ask for Liz when they needed help.
The greatest joy of her life was spending time with her two children: Janae and Eric Boyle. Her joy was even greater when Janae gave birth to Liz’s granddaughter Mia Toumbs. Adding to her blessings were the addition of two more grandchildren, Blaine Freels and Ava Lee Sorenson from her husband Jeff’s side of the family. Although Liz was taken from us far too early, she was able to treasure each moment she shared with Janae, Eric and Mia, as well as her husband Jeff and the rest of her family.
The world was a better place for everyone who knew Liz. We take comfort that she is with her Mom, her sister Margaret (Hagstrom) Warrington and brother Bill Hagstrom in God’s care. We can find strength in her courageous battle against the disease that took her and draw from the faith in God she showed us that we may also stay strong when faced with life’s joys and hardships.
Survivors in addition to Liz’s husband, children and grandchildren include her father Verne Hagstrom and her two brothers, Father Thomas Hagstrom and Joe Hagstrom and his wife Michelle. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 10:30 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Sunset Cemetery of the Illinois Veterans Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Cathedral of Worship.

“Thinking of you, wishing you hope in the midst of sorrow, comfort in the midst of pain.”
Your mother was an incredible human being. While she was taken too soon find joy in the fact that she was yours and that she gave me my drivers licence 🙂
