Elizabeth Jean “Betty” Derhake

Elizabeth Jean “Betty” Derhake, age 89, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 1201 North 14th St., Quincy, died on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 7:09 p.m. in the home. She was born on December 12, 1925 in Quincy, a daughter of Bernard & Frances (Smith) Wavering. She married Eugene Derhake on June 27, 1952 in St. Boniface Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on May 13, 2010.

Betty graduated from St. Boniface Catholic Grade School and Notre Dame High School.

She retired in 1992 from Hardee’s at 12th & Locust where she enjoyed working as a cook.
She was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church.

Betty liked knitting and quilting, she quilted weekly with the ladies at the former St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. For many years, she and her husband Gene spent almost every weekend at their camp, known as “Joe’s Acres” getting together with family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Debby Rigor of Petersburg, IL, Sue Gates and her husband Darrell of Payson, IL, Mary (Mike) Harris of Payson, IL; and Tim Derhake and his wife Donna of Quincy;
EIGHT GRANDCHILDREN: Nicole Huber and her husband Justin, Dominique Sunde and her husband Keith, Kimberly Gates, Kendra Brooks, Matthew Harris, Jason Derhake and his wife Debi, Andy Derhake and his wife Kayla, and Amber Derhake;
TWELVE GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Kyla Frizell, Taten Huber, Ellina, Keegan and Ashton Sunde, Okiah and Kamora Davis, Gunnar, HarLen, Liam and Ryder and Porter Derhake;
and nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Eugene, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Derhake, and five brothers, William, Bernard, Charles, Joseph & Robert Wavering; two sisters , Helen & Lillian Wavering.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Blessing Foundation for HOSPICE or Masses may be given in Betty’s name.

    Sending thoughts and prayers to Betty’s family during their time of loss. I remember Betty coming to my parents house to buy eggs. Fond memories of her will always be with us.
