Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Nichols
Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Nichols, age 92, of Quincy, died on Friday, July 2, 2021, in the Illinois Veterans Home. She was born on August 17, 1928, in Quincy, the daughter of Ralph and Annamarie (Moore) Achilles. She married Merle “Red” Nichols on June 24, 1947, in the St. Francis Rectory. He preceded her in death on December 4, 1988.
Betty attended St. Michael’s Grade School and graduated from Quincy High School in 1946. She was an outstanding seamstress, working at Farha Uniform and retiring from Mr. K Fabric in August of 2017.
Betty was a member of the Wagon Wheel Square Dancers, Adams County Boot Kickers, and the St. Vincent De Paul Society. She volunteered at St. Vincent’s Home and RSVP. She also enjoyed tending to her flowers and yard.
Betty is survived by her son; Jim Nichols of Quincy and seven grandchildren; Jeff (Abbey) Nichols, Nancy (Dave) Poellet, Tara (Randy) Huseman, Jill (Bruce) Baker, David (Jessica) Nichols, Kenneth (Caren) Nichols and Michelle (Cliff) Daugherty; 18 great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Judy Scott; a sister, Mary Shade; brothers, Tony Achilles and George Achilles and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Nichols.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Rev. Tom Meyer, officiating. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or Great River Honor Flight. Services are in care of Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.
