Elizabeth A. “Betty” Bergman-Henry
Elizabeth A. “Betty” Bergman-Henry, age 84, of Quincy, died on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 in her home. She was born on July 8, 1935 in Quincy, the daughter of Cyril H. (Kelly) Duesterhaus and Edith E. Genenbacher-Costigan. Betty married Wayne R. Bergman May 25, 1957 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Quincy. he preceded her in death on January 10, 1993. She married Charles L. Henry June 30, 2001 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on June 15, 2017.
Betty graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School and kept in touch with her classmates. She was a member of the Church of St. Peter, Knights of Columbus, Westview Golf Course, and Quincy Boat Club. She was a longtime member of the American Business Women’s Association and had been a volunteer at Blessing Hospital’s Tea Room. Her life was very much based around her family and friends. She was the matriarch that chose to lead by example with strength, grace, poise, love, and faith. She was steadfast in her faith and love.
Betty is survived by a son, Randall J. Bergman and wife, Terri of Florence, SC; a daughter, Sheri M. Rayburn and husband, Robert of Danville, KY; step-son Robert Henry and wife, Terri of Danville, IL; step-daughters, Patricia Erf and husband, Gregory of Portales, NM; Katharine Henkenmeier and husband Gerald of Quincy; step-sons, Dennis Henry and wife, Maria of Littleton, CO; James Henry and wife, Kelly of Murrells Inlet, SC.
Grandchildren: Danielle Winkler and husband, Payton of Sherrills Ford, NC; and Kendall Bergman and wife, Cassie of Savoy, IL; Brandi Hawley and husband, Dominic of Martinez, GA; Kate Reichert of Lexington, KY; and Dylan Reichert of Amelia, OH; Step-Grandchildren: Meredith Sturgeon and husband, Nick of Perry, GA; Morgan Aguirre and husband, Jacob of Denver, CO; Logan Erf and wife, Kelsey of Denver, CO; David Henkenmeier and wife, Erin of Quincy; Laura Henkenmeier of Yuba City, CA; Shawn and Jamie Henry of Littleton, CO; Alex and Carter Henry of Quincy; Ryan Henry of Anchorage, AK; Hannah Heston of Aiken, SC.
Three Great-Grandchildren: Bentley Vargas, Cooper Hawley, and Warren Winkler; Seven Step-Great-Grandchildren: Audrey and Cole Henkenmeier, Liam and Weston Sturgeon, and Colin, Bentley and Braydon of Quincy.
Siblings: Robert Duesterhaus and wife, Judy; Kathleen Venvertloh and husband, Walter; Cynthia Frericks and husband, Kenneth; brother-in-law, Thomas Bergman; sister-in-law, Launa Blickhan and husband, Maurice all of Quincy. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a foster sister, Sr. M. Victoria Franks and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Bergman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter by Rev. Aaron Kuhn. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Church of St. Peter and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:00 at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Knights of Columbus Mass for Shut-In’s or to the Church of St. Peter.
