Eldon C. L. Vahle

Eldon C. L. Vahle, age 92, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of Liberty, IL died on Sunday, November 11, 2012 in the Home. He was born on May 31, 1920 in Quincy the son of Carl & Lilly (Gillhause) Vahle. Eldon first married Carol Peterson on October 2, 1946. She preceded him in death. Eldon later married Helen Pracht on August 13, 1994. She also preceded him in death. Mr. Vahle was a milking machine salesman for Surge Company out of Chicago, IL and then later worked as a Purina Feed Salesman out of the Liberty Feed Mill. Mr. Vahle served from 1942 until 1945 in the Army Air Corps during WWII and was stationed in the South Pacific. Mr. Vahle was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Liberty. He was Superintendent of the Sunday School for over twenty years and served in many other offices of the church. Eldon greatly enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the Liberty Lions Club for 54 years and the Liberty American Legion for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Adam County Farm Bureau and had served as Treasurer of the Liberty Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by: TWO CHILDREN: Larry Vahle and his wife Jane of Seneca, IL; and Susan Nickell and her husband Rob of Eaton, CO.
TWO GRANDCHILDREN: Carin Vahle and her husband Scott Daly and Stephanie Vahle.
ONE STEP-CHILD: Brenda Obert and her husband Dave.
Step-grandchildren, Step-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to both his first and second wife, Eldon was also preceded in death by two brothers: Darrell Vahle and Aldo Vahle.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 11:00 AM in Zion Lutheran Church in Liberty by Deacon Pat Monroe. Interment in Burton Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home in Quincy. Memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church or to the Illinois Veterans Home Activities Fund.
