Elaine C. Slater

Elaine C. Slater, age 79, of St. Vincent’s Home, formerly of 2105 State St., Quincy, died on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 6:30 a.m. in Blessing Hospital. She was born on March 5, 1935 in Quincy, a daughter of Edgar & Dolores (VandenBoom) Stuckman. She married John W. Slater on July 17, 1957 in St. Francis Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on August 2, 2013.

Elaine retired from Central Services with the City of Quincy having worked for many years in the Payroll Department.

Elaine loved spending time with her grandchildren. She had a sense of humor and enjoyed playing practical jokes. She liked BINGO, playing cards & watching tv, especially St. Louis Cardinal baseball games. She also always looked forward to trips to the beauty salon.

She is survived by her children, Joan Mast and her husband Chuck and John “Jay” Slater and his wife Melissa all of Quincy; and three grandchildren Kellie & Emily Mast and Sydney Slater.

In addition to her husband, John, and her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Ronald Stuckman and a sister Shirley Booher.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Fr. Don Blaeser, O.F.M. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Quincy Humane Society or to the Katherine Road Raptor Rehabilitation Center.

    Sorry for your loss. I worked with Elaine for many years at central services. She was a joy to work with and i have many fond memories.I will always remember her singing happy birthday to everyone that came to her office on their birthday. She will truly be missed.

    I am so sorry for your loss..I worked with your mom for years with the city and we nicknamed her Betty. She was a wonderful person and fun to work with..
