Eileen Anne Smith
Eileen Anne Smith, age 75, of 2714 Cedardale Drive Quincy, IL, passed away at 7:25 a.m. on Monday December 30, 2013 in Blessing Hospital.
Eileen was born May 7, 1938 in Quincy, IL. She was the daughter of Ernest and Mildred (Thurnhoffer) Herzog. She married Don Smith in July, 1960. She was a member of the Faith Christian Church. Eileen graduated from Warsaw High School and Gem City Business College. She was employed with Motorola Inc. in Quincy from December 1956 until the plant closed in summer of 1976. She then worked for the United Way of Adams County for 10 Years, and the Senior Family Resource Center for 18 years before retiring.
Eileen loved people, and people loved her. Those who had met her even only once recall the fond impression she made. From head to toe, Eileen was well put together and dressed to the nines, from the classiest jewelry to her trademark silver hair. She was independent and didn’t let life give her a day she didn’t seize. Eileen’s greatest joy came from her family: son, daughter-in-law, sisters, brother and most of all her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She cherished her good friends and loved traveling to visit friends out west, and out east to spend time with her cousin Kay.
She is survived by one son, Michael Smith and his wife Jill of Quincy, one grandson, Christopher Smith of Quincy, and two granddaughters, Hanna and Halle Smith of Quincy. She is also survived by a brother, Leo Herzog of Quincy and two sisters, Betty Thompson and her husband Lee of Niota, IL and Jan Corrigan and her husband Dale of Quincy, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters-in-law, Betty and Dee Herzog, and two nieces, Debbie Herzog and Dena Morrison.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 12:00 Noon in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery. Dear Mike and Family,
Thinking of you—-
Dick & Pat Wentura
It was with deep sorrow to hear of Eileen’s passing. I worked with her at the Sr Center for many years. She was a special person that you loved to be with. My condolences to the family.
“God is our refuge and strength, A help that is readily found in times of distress.” (Psalms 46:1) My deepest condolences to the family on the loss of your loved one. And may the above words give you peace knowing that the Almighty God is with you to comfort and strengthen you through this difficult time.
My heart and love goes out to your family. When I think of Eileen, I begin to smile. She was delightful, funny and a treasure. She was Carolyn’s closest friend and a constant in our lives. “Use it or lose it” she would say and let nothing stop her from enjoying life. She believed in living life to the fullest and will always be an inspiration. God bless you Eileen and have fun with Mom.
