Edwin R. Wellman

Edwin R. Wellman, age 82, of Quincy, died on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 in his home. He was born on February 24, 1936 in Quincy the son of Raymond and Clara (Schreacke) Wellman.
He married Mary Ann Jansen on August 22, 1959 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on June 19, 2009.

Edwin was an All Star fastpitch pitcher. He pitched three games straight in the same day to win the Illinois State championship. Ed was an avid Cardinal fan.

Edwin worked for Prairie Farms Dairy. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He enjoyed being part of Austin’s Army at St. Francis. He liked to fish and playing cards with his card club. He also like mushroom hunting. His greatest joy, though, was spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by:
CHILDREN: Jim Wellman and his wife Yvonne of Titusville, FL; Theresa Mabie and her husband Jamie of Douglass, KS; Joyce Whittaker and her husband Dallas Lee of Springfield, IL and Jerry Wellman and his wife Ellen of Maywood, MO;
GRANDCHILDREN: Brandon Wellman and his wife Heather, Ian Wellman, Trevor Wellman, Tyler and Madison Mabie, Ashley Harder and her husband James, Joshua Wellman, Hanna Pierce and her husband Zachary.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Teddy, Eleanor, Alaric, Sonia and Elijah
SIBLINGS: Norma Jean Obert; Rosalie ‘Sis’ Obert, Kenneth Wellman and his wife Mary Louise; Mary Ann Hildebrand and her husband David; Billy Wellman; Ronald Wellman and his wife Susie and Eugene Wellman and his wife Joyce.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law: Christina Wellman and a grandson Matthew Schneider.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church.

    Uncle Eddie you are the best, thank you for always having a smile and kind words, thank you for being my uncle and one great guy that is loved and respected by everyone. You will be deeply missed and a piece of the family will be missed. You wife has been waiting for you and will welcome you with open arms, Its sad to say goodbye but with all the family in heaven I know my mom will be entertaining everyone in heaven in preparation for each of us to join the party one day. God blessed us with you.

    So sorry to hear of Edwin’s passing. I have fond memories of him and Mary Ann. I will be thinking of the entire Wellman family during these days of your final good byes.
