Edward L. Brocksieck, age 85, of Quincy, died on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 5:45 PM in Blessing Hospital. He was born on March 27, 1933 in Quincy, IL the son of Wilbur and Mary (Kahs) Brocksieck. He married Sylvia Thien on May 16, 1959 in St. John Catholic Church in Quincy. She survives. Ed was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Brocksieck was a Police Officer and later Detective for the City of Quincy, having served for more than 20 years until his retirement. After retirement, Ed worked security at several places, most notably as head of Security for St. Mary/Blessing Hospital. He is a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and a former long-time member of St. John Catholic Church.

Ed was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and trapping. He enjoyed all of the time spent at the family farm. He was a taxidermist for many years. He was a member of North Side Boat Club, the Volunteer Emergency Corps and also the Police Benevolent Society. He will be dearly missed.

The family would like to thank all of Ed’s caregivers at St. Vincent’s Home, the Illinois Veterans Home, Blessing Hospital and the Blessing Hospice Program.

FIVE CHILDREN: Judy Hoffman and her husband John of Quincy; Joseph Brocksieck and his wife Sheila of Quincy; Linda Taylor and her husband Brian of Durham, MO; Patricia Bohne and her husband Richard of Quincy and Sharon Durst and her husband Doug of Quincy.
SEVEN GRANDCHILDREN: Jennifer Eling and her husband Steve; Kyle Brocksieck; Adam Brocksieck; Justin Taylor and his fiancé Kayla Jenkins; Jacob Bohne and his fiancé Stacey Buss; Erin Bohne and Austin Durst.
TWO GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Benjamin and William Eling
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Arthur Brocksieck and a sister: Evelyn Russell.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 9:30 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00. Memorials may be made to the Volunteer Emergency Corps, Blessing Foundation for Hospice, or to Citizen’s Police Academy. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
