EDWARD “ED” JACOB GLANZMAN, 80, of Quincy, died Thursday, August 24, 2017, at Good Samaritan Home, Quincy, IL. Ed was born November 21, 1936, at home at 2009 Madison St., Quincy, IL, a son of Edward and Marie (Pickartz) Glanzman. He had a very special friend and companion, whom he loved for the past 29 years, the love of his life, Lou McIntyre.
Ed attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, now Blessed Sacrament, and graduated from Quincy High School in 1954. Upon graduation, he joined the Air Force in 1955, and served at an airbase in Germany of which he proudly shared those experiences. He received the good conduct medal and national defense service medal. Returning home, he briefly attended Quincy College, now Quincy University.
In his high school years, he worked at Kroger’s on 8th Street. After his honorable discharge, he worked at ADT until April 24, 1967. On April 25, 1967, he began his career at Moorman Mfg Co. in the maintenance department, retiring in 1995, after 28 years. He then did maintenance for Fazoli’s and painting with his nephew, Wensing Painting & Repair.
Ed was a parishioner of St. Boniface Church and presently of St. Francis Catholic Church. He was an avid hunter and member of the Hunters and Fishermens Assoc. He was also a long-time member of both the NRA, and the National Rebublican Party. Ed enjoyed cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals and watching NASCAR. Attending the INDIANAPOLIS 500 and taking the train to Seattle with Lou were highlights and wonderful memories. He also had an interest in coins and birding with his sisters. Ed was a wonderful gardener, always sharing his produce with family, friends, neighbors and sometimes unintentionally rabbits and those pesky squirrels!! He supported his children as they raised and showed rabbits at the fair. Ed also greatly enjoyed following Brandon’s and Kelsy’s sporting events.
Survivors are Lou; two daughters, Tina (John) Fisher of Aurora and Theresa “Teri”(Larry) White of Quincy; a son, Christopher ‘Chris’ ( Georgia ) Glanzman of South Elgin; five grandchildren, Brandon White of St. Louis, MO, Kelsy White, of Quincy; Jessica Glanzman, and twins, Jacob & Connor Glanzman, all of South Elgin; three sisters, Francis “Fran” (Kenneth “Ken”) Sibbing of Keokuk, IA; Minnie “Jo” (John “Jack”) Glisan and Patricia “Pat” (Paul) Wensing, both of Quincy, IL. He has several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and even great-great nieces and nephews, all who loved “THE great Uncle Ed” dearly and all will miss him and his famous “glad you got to see me!” Ed will be missed also, by Lou’s caring family, a lifelong high school friend, John Reiter, of whom they made cross-country deliveries together, and his many treasured friends who have hunted, vacationed, and supported him for many, many years.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Cecilia “Ceal” (Robert “Bob”) Timpe of St. Louis, MO, four brothers-in-law, Ken Sibbing, Bob Timpe, Jack Glisan, Paul Wensing, and his aunts and uncles.
Thank you to his many dedicated doctors, nurses, caregivers and support staff of Good Samaritan Home, Blessing Hospital, Unity Point Hospice Care and First Choice Physical Therapy for their skills, kindness, gentleness, and patience over the past years. All of you were absolutely amazing!
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for prostate cancer research in Ed’s memory to University of Illinois, College of Medicine, Rockford.
