Edward A. Terstriep

Edward A. Terstriep, age 58, loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend was raised into heaven on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 after an 11 month battle with cancer. Ed was born October 18, 1962 in Quincy, IL, a son of Russell B. & Rita M. (Rossmiller) Terstriep. He married the love of his life, Lori A. Hummel, on September 14, 1985 in Quincy. She survives. In September they celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary with friends and family. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Parish.

Ed was a farmer all his life. He had pride in his love of the earth and his livestock. He was also employed by Maas Construction where he lead the team with his wit, creativity and sense of humor. Cancer forced him to retire in September. Ed loved wood-working, DIY projects and building creative and unique ‘quick fixers’ around the farm. His creativity sometimes made us stop and think ‘Why didn’t I think of that.”

He loved being with his family and friends. There were always mischievous acts involved if Ed was around. His positive attitude and love for life gave him strength and HOPE with his battle with cancer.

Ed was most proud of his children from the day they were each born he held them in his loving arms with pride and joy. He mentored his children to be strong and independent, always adding humor in his lessons. He coached and watched each one of them as they developed into accomplished athletes. You always found him on the sidelines at every sporting event in high school and college. He filmed every sporting event and family event he was involved in. He could not wait to get home and watch the game tapes. He treasured his down time with fun and relaxation with friends and family at the Lake of the Ozarks. He was known by them as, ‘Easy Ed!’ Ed was a member of the Adams County Farm Bureau, Grawe Insurance and the QND Football Committee.

In addition to his wife, Ed is also survived by:
HIS MOTHER: Rita Terstriep
HIS FOUR CHILDREN: Adam Terstriep of Payson, IL; Christopher Terstriep (Caitlyn) of Waunakee, WI; Ryan Terstriep (Stephanie) of Eureka, MO and his precious daughter, Emily Terstriep of St. Charles, MO.
SIBLINGS: Steve Terstriep (Julie) of Industry, IL, Sandy Brinkman of Quincy and Janice Schuckman (Kevin) also of Quincy.
HIS MOTHER-IN-LAW: Jennifer Hummel.
SISTERS AND BROTHERS-IN-LAW: Brenda Seals of Quincy, Cindy Smith (Brad) of Plainville, Theresa Hummel of Quincy, Michael Hummel (Linda) of Quincy and Matthew Hummel (Nicole) of Lincoln, NE.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Russ, his father-in-law: Michael and brother-in-law Randy Brinkman.

From Lori and the family: Ed’s journey started in January 2020 with stage IV cancer. Special thanks and gratitude go out to Dr. Harsha (Blessing Colorectal surgeon) and his tremendous staff for the care, the hope and endless hours spent with Ed during his battle. Dr. Koduru (QMG) oncologist for his knowledge and determination to continue exploring and co-managing with CTCA all options for treatments. A huge thank you to Blessing Infusion Center where Ed looked forward to going to on Chemo Fridays. He loved each and every one of you and you spoiled him. Most recent thank you to Blessing CVU. The outstanding care and compassion the last 2 days will never be forgotten. Close to my heart with special thanks to Dr. Beth, Dr. Ginos, Dr. Dunn and Dr. Buckey for their love, knowledge and compassion shown to me and our family throughout this journey. Can’t forget Blessing ER department, radiology, Sonia Krause and her team for continued support and flexibility when called upon. We know there are so many other friends and family who supported us as well. We are forever grateful. Although Ed lost his battle with cancer, he received the ultimate goal of heaven. May he and all the angels watch over us.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 30, 2020 at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon at St. Anthony Catholic Church from 3:00 until 6:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the Quincy Hospitality House, CTCA (Cancer Treatments of America) in Georgia, Blessing Infusion Center, Quincy Notre Dame Athletics, St. Anthony Catholic Church or donor’s choice. I just saw this. My wife told me about it. She had just delivered a chair there a couple of weeks ago. Eddie was a few years older than me in school and bought my childhood home. Great guy . I pray god gives his family the strength to get through this.
