Edith Mearl Kroencke
Edith Mearl Kroencke, born October 20, 1917 in Hunnewell, Missouri to Willis Rankin Robbins and Ellen Mary (Renard) Robbins, died on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at the age of 102.
She married John Kroencke February 8, 1936 in Hull, Illinois. John was originally a farmer and became a partner of the Liberty Feed Mill, Liberty, Illinois. He preceded her in death July 24, 1989. Edith was a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was an excellent gardener, quilter and fisherman. As Edith aged, she enjoyed playing shuffleboard, bingo, and cards. Her proudest moment was volunteering her time to craft over four thousand teddy bears (thirty per month) for children at Blessing Hospital. Edith taught hard work, strength, and discipline. Her life was full and long.
Edith is survived by TWO DAUGHTERS: Lois (Dale) Tenhouse and Ruth Ann Weisenberger;
GRANDCHILDREN: Lynn (David) Deters, Steven (Pam) Tenhouse, Brent (Debra) Graff, Lisa (Joe) Smith and Gina Graff;
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Sara Deters, Andrew (Kayla) Tenhouse, Hope Tenhouse, Heather Graff, Deven and Jaeden Smith, Alex Kaufman, and MaKayla Wand.
She is preceded in death by her teenage daughter, Patsy Lou, March 28, 1959. Her sister, Alice Bastian, died at age 107. Her other siblings and her husband’s siblings and spouses have also preceded her in death.
A private graveside service will be held at Quincy Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to Pleasant Grove Methodist Church. Duker and Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
What a life! Every time I would see her she always had a smile. She would greet me with “let’s go fishin'”

Always enjoyed doing Edith’s hair at Curtis Creek. Guess I really got to know her better in her later years but still remember her from the visits that Daddy took us to her home down by possum holler to watch wrestling on tv cause we didn’t have one. I have so many great memories from growing up next door to Edith & John. I considered them family and now realize as an adult how much they taught me about life! From playing dress-up in their basement, climbing the willow tree, making noodles in her kitchen and the many fishing trips we spent together, those were cherished memories spent in Liberty! She was one of a kind and I thank God for allowing me to know and love them both! My prayers to Lois & Dale, Lynn (many of the memories involved you, too!), Steven and Ruth Ann & family…a life well lived!!

Lois, Ruth Ann & families – my sincerest condolences to you all. I have so many great memories of Edith growing up just a few houses away! I’m so glad to have gotten to visit for her 100th birthday open house. She lived life with vigor and purpose, to be sure!
