Edith Caroline Levens
Edith Caroline Levens, age 85, of 314 1/2 Highway 57, Quincy, IL, formerly of Swan River, Minnesota, died on Monday, June 4, 2012 in her home. She was born on July 1, 1926 in Culver, Minnesota, the daughter of Erick & Martha (Thoreen) Bong. She maried Donald Irvin Levens on February 14, 1946 in Cloquet, Minnesota. He preceded her in death in 1979. Mrs. Levens worked as a home health aide for Itasca County, Minnesota for many years until her retirement in 1995.
She was a member of Akers Chapel Community Church.
Edith was survived by:
TWO DAUGHTERS: Jane Bramlett of Quincy and Mary Levens of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
FIVE GRANDCHILDREN: Starleigh Strother, Steve Riley, Anisha Nyaundi, Darius Nyaundi, and Marcus Nyaundi.
Three Great-grandchildren, a brother: Leonard Bong and his wife Iona along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Deanna Levens and a brother Willard Bong.
Mrs. Levens donated her body to medical science and no formal services are planned at this time. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Dear Family, My parents, Ray and Jeannette Shuey were good friends with Don & Edith when they lived in Swan River. They attended the Church of the Nazarene together. I remember playing at their home in SR. My father Ray was born in 1924 and my mother Jeannette in 1927. They have both gone to heaven. I am sure that Jeannette and Edith are reminiscing. I am very sorry for your loss. I am very grateful for the beautiful obituary that you placed in the Herald Review.
