Edgar Walter Campbell

Edgar Walter Campbell age 86, of 504 North 54th St., Quincy, died on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 in his home. He was born August 1, 1924 in Quincy, a son of Walter & Gladys (Hamilton) Campbell. He married Genevieve Frese on July 28, 1951 in St. John Catholic Church in Quincy. She preceded him in death on June 3, 1995.

Ed was a bread route salesman, retiring from Purity Baking Company in1986.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines and New Caledonia. Ed achieved the Rank of Tech 5 and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal. On August 26, 2010 he participated in the St. Louis, Missouri Honor Flight Program accompanied by his son, Craig.

Ed was formerly a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and presently a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. Ed was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, and he enjoyed walking and gardening.

Survivors include his sons, Timothy Campbell of Ankeny, IA; Thomas Campbell and his wife Rose of Liberty; Tony Campbell and his wife Sarah of Grass Valley, CA; Craig Campbell and his wife Maura of Greenville, IL; his daughters, Bonnie Henke of Quincy; and June Otte and her husband Chuck, all of Quincy.

Also surviving are
18 grandchildren: Lucas, Adam and Rachel Henke; Laura del la Santos; Sarah and Ian Campbell; Michael and Chad White; Mandy Riggs; Scott and Cory Campbell; Christopher Otte; Miles and Nathan Campbell;
Caleb, John, Elizabeth and Katrina Campbell; and one great grandson, Roman Riggs.
In-laws, nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers Raymond and Lloyd Campbell; a sister, Carrie Zanger; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Campbell; and a granddaughter, Samantha June Otte.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church conducted by Rev. Tom Shaughnessey, O.F.M. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military honors by the American Legion Post #37. Visitation is Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh. There will be a parish prayer service Sunday at 3:00 p.m..

    Bonnie, sorry to hear of your father passing. As a fellow military person, I am glad to see he had the opportunity to visit the WWII memorial before his passing. I am sure it meant a lot to him.
