Edgar Roy Moore

Edgar Roy Moore age 83, of 1025 South 7th St. Quincy, died on Saturday, November 28, 2009 in Washington, Iowa. He was born February 21, 1926 in St. Louis, MO a son of Clarence and Marie (Earnest) Moore. He married Norma Jean Goodwin on July 5, 1947 in the St. Boniface Parsonage and she survives.

Edgar was a machinist at Gardner Denver for 42 years prior to retiring in 1988.
He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Edgar was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish. He was a former member and past-president of the Holy Name Society and had served as a Scout Leader for many years at St. Mary Grade School. He loved scouting and was a member of the Order of the Arrow.

Edgar was a woodworker, he also was a bicycle repairman and had a second-hand bicycle shop through which he gave away many bikes over the years. In his later years he played Santa Claus and was known for his knack for finding the silliest and most annoying toys. He was past-President of the local Racing Boat Association and he spent several years racing boats on the river.

In addition to his wife, Norma, survivors also include: four sons, Alan (Carol) Moore; Roger (Chris) Moore all of Quincy; Larry (Mary) Moore of Pekin, IL; Kevin (Kathy) Moore of Quincy; two daughters, Nancy (LaVern) Mayfield and Annette Moore all of Quincy;
A Sister, Betty (Jim) Dart of Robison, IL ; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Louetta Wirey; two brothers, Clarence and Harry Moore and a grandson Edward Mayfield.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Msgr. Michael Kuse. Interment with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #37 will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh. There will be a parish prayer service at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or Camp Callahan.
