Earl J. Genenbacher

Earl J. Genenbacher, age 89, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of 1233 North 25th St., died on Monday, December 15, 2008 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on November 21, 1919 in Fowler, IL the son of John & Anna (Klauser) Genenbacher. Earl married Esther Bockhold on October 22, 1946 in St. Anthony Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on April 22, 2000. Earl served in the United States Army during WWII. Mr. Genenbacher was a self-employed contractor. He was also instrumental in building both the Cedar Crest golf course and the Knights of Columbus par 3 golf course. Earl enjoyed hunting, trap shooting and golf. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Western Catholic Union, the Holy Name Society, the Mississippi Valley Historical Automobile Club and the Adams County Olde Thyme Assn.

Earl is survived by:
A DAUGHTER: Peggy Johnston and her husband Michael of Quincy.
THREE GRANDCHILDREN: Eric Entrup and his fiance Mindy Kuhn, Nicole Entrup and Brian Entrup all of Quincy
TWO GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Ali & Sydney Entrup.
ONE SISTER: Viola Dinkheller of Quincy
ONE SISTER IN LAW: Lee Genenbacher.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to his wife, Earl was preceded in death by:
FIVE BROTHERS: Elmer, Raymond, Art, John “Jim” and C.J. “Sam” Genenbacher and FIVE SISTERS: Agnes Duesterhaus, Edith Costigan, Virginia Stegeman, Rita Clarke, and Mary Schneider.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 19, 2008 at 9:30 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #37. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4 – 7 PM with a Parish Prayer service at 6:30 PM. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church.
